Shadow Defines a Silhouette

In this study, we move away from the garment itself to focus on the environment it inhabits. The sharp, elongated shadow creates a secondary silhouette, a brutalist projection that mirrors the wearer’s stance. By utilizing a single, harsh light source, we reveal the architectural angles of the quarter-zip fleece and the raw textures of distressed denim. It is a reminder that the way light hits a fabric is just as critical as the stitch itself.

The void surrounding the subject isn’t empty; it’s a deliberate design choice. In a world of visual clutter, this high-contrast composition strips everything back to the essentials: form, light, and shadow. The angles of the shadow ground the subject, creating a visual anchor that feels both industrial and cinematic. It highlights the transition from soft textiles to the hard, unyielding geometry of a studio space.

We often think of layering as adding pieces of clothing, but here, we are layering dimensions. The projection on the wall acts as a distorted blueprint of the look. At Arc&Line, we explore these “extended silhouettes”—where the garment ends and its influence on the space begins. This is the intersection of fashion and environmental design, captured in a single, frozen moment.
